Ahmedabad is well known as India’s first World UNESCO Heritage city. Once you get a chance to visit this historic city, your curious nerves want to explore more about the rich culture and heritage of the city. You can’t stop yourself to see a number of places soaked in history.
But if you are wondering whether is it possible to explore the city with a Kid? So, you are just in the right place. This post will give you all the possible flavors of the city which you can enjoy with your kids.
We have prepared a list of places which are kids friendly as well as liked and enjoyed by adults too. Neither your child nor you will get bored while visiting the below top 20 list of kids friendly places to visit near Ahmedabad. Most of the places are within the radius of 30 km from the city center and few need a full day to spend with your loved ones.
So, let’s explore the heritage city with kids.
Note: I will be giving quick tips (including timings, address, best time to visit and entry fee) for each place to visit with toddler/pre-schooler/teen.

Kankaria Zoo- Ahmedabad
This zoological park was established in 1951 and is spread over 76 acres, also known as Kamla Nehru Zoo. It is the biggest in Gujarat and situated in Kankaria Lake campus. It contains a varied number of birds and animals. Kids, as well as adults, enjoy the hilly walking and green trees around making it feel like a walk in the jungle.
- The place is suitable for everyone. But you need to carry a stroller if you are taking a toddler with you as it would be a long walk.
- Drinking water, food, and ice cream parlors are available.

2. Kankaria Lake- Nagina Wadi
Kankaria Lake is the second largest Lake in Ahmedabad, located in Maninagar area and was completed in 1451. Though this place is mesmerizing throughout the year but the best time to visit it is during winter festival which occurs every year in the last week of December.
Main Attractions:
This Lake has almost all elements of a perfect picnic place. It includes-
Kids city, Water Park, laser show, various rides, toy train, butterfly park, gardens, games, Bal Vatika and Nagina wadi in the middle of the lake holds all amazing features to explore.
- The place is suitable for everyone. But you need to carry a stroller if you are taking a toddler with you as it would be a long walk.

3. Sundarvan- A Nature Discovery Centre
Sundarvan is like a small zoo. The educational activities in this discovery center with kids and elders act as a catalyst and stimulate the process of inquiry into nature. It has a collection of reptiles, birds, and small mammals.
- Kids love this place. Best place for interaction with nature for small kids.

4. Amdavad ni Gufa
This is basically underground art gallery which exhibits the works of famous Indian artist Maqbool Fida Hussain aka M.F. Hussain. It was designed by architect Balkrishan Vithaldas Doshi and earlier it was known as Hussain-Doshi ni Gufa. Kids love to jump over the Gufa (cave) and they get messy but it is worth the dirt.

- Suitable for everyone. This place excites all.

5. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Museum
This National Museum is located in Moti Shahi Mahal in the Shahibaug area of Ahmedabad. The building was constructed in 1618-1622 and was used as British Cantonment at that time. After independence, it was used as the serving Governor’s residence. The museum was set up in 1978 by then CM of Gujarat, showcases artifacts and the belongings of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the beloved national leader.
Attraction: The multimedia halls which demonstrate 3D interactive and experimental exhibits on Sardar Patel’s life and work.
- Suitable for everyone except infants.

Museum– Tuesday to Sunday (9:30 AM to 5:00 PM), Monday closed.
3D interactive show– Saturday & Sunday only (7:00 PM to 7:45 PM)

6. 5 Acres of Kindness
This place is a wonderful initiative of Animal Welfare Organisation under which rescued animals are housed in a 5 acres farm close to the city Ahmedabad. The place is best to teach kids the act of kindness and power of helping the needy.
- The place is best suitable as a field trip for school kids.

7. Maniar’s Wonderland
This place is a quick drive from Ahmedabad but worth a perfect one day picnic. This is basically an amusement park which is divided into two parts- Outdoor Wonderland Pools and an indoor artificial Snow Park. It is the first and largest Snow Park in Gujarat.
- It is full of fun and thrill for the young and old alike.

8. Auto World Vintage Car Museum
This is an open-air vintage automobile museum. There is a wonderful collection of vintage cars, carriages, motorcycles, and other vehicles. Auto World Vintage museum showcases a valuable collection of cars ranging from 1906 Minerva to 1954 Ford.

- One can have a ride of a few kilometers in one of the cars.
- A play area for kids with some motorized swings.

10. Adalaj Stepwell
It is a fine example of Indian architecture and heritage. Also known as Rudabai stepwell located in Adalaj village in Gandhinagar close to Ahmedabad. It was built by Queen Rudabai in memory of Rana Veer Singh in 1499. The architecture style is Hindu-Islamic combination. A must visit place to admire the architectural beauty of the bygone era. You will be awestruck with the intricate carvings on the pillars and walls of this architectural marvel.
- The place is suitable for everyone.
- Limited choice of food and other refreshments as it is located in a village. Prefer to carry your own eatables if you plan for a longer visit. Otherwise, 2 hours are sufficient for the visit.

11. Indroda Nature & Dinosaur Fossil Park
This nature park is run by GEER foundation and also known as Jurassic Park of India located in Gandhinagar. The park exhibits eggs, fossils and life-size models of Dinosaurs with information at displays about the Jurassic era. Apart from Dinosaur Park, it includes a zoo, botanical garden, amphitheater, Wilderness Park with an innumerable number of species of birds and animals in its vast forest. The sea creature skeletons like blue whale and dolphin on the exhibits are the main attraction.
- Best place for nature lovers and kids of all ages except infants/toddlers.
- Drinking water facility is present but not much option for food. Better to carry your own food and place is ideal for a day picnic.

12. Thol Wildlife Sanctuary
Thol Wildlife Sanctuary is based on an artificial freshwater Lake surrounded by marshes in Thol village in Mehsana district of Gujarat. It is an ideal place for nature lovers and wildlife seekers.
- This place is suitable for everyone. Need to carry stroller if you are taking an infant/toddler along with you.
- Carry your own food as there are not many choices available.
- Best place for a day excursion.
- Best time to visit after monsoon.

13. Dandi Kutir
This is world’s one of a kind museum dedicated to only one person exhibiting his life stories and lessons. It is located in Gandhinagar. Dandi Kutir featured the life of Mahatma Gandhi through audio guides and 3D visual projections. This place is in itself a source of huge information.

- Food court and other basic facilities are available.
- No cameras/ phones are allowed inside the museum.

14. Sarita Udhyan
This is Green Park situated along the banks of Sabarmati River in Gandhinagar and is ideal for a family picnic. There is Children Park and open gym facility inside.

Note: If you are visiting Ahmedabad in the first 2 weeks of January, then must visit Sabarmati Riverfront for International Kite Festival also known as Uttarayan. It is celebrated every year and hosted by Gujarat.
15. Sanskruti Kunj
This place is to soak you in Indian culture. A set up known as a cultural hub of India located along the banks of Sabarmati River in Gandhinagar and is popularly known for its Annual Spring Festival (Basant Mahotsav).
- Best place for everyone except infants/toddler.
- Lots of food choices available during fest along with shopping.
- Note: Don’t miss the event of cultural music & dance performances in Sanskruti Kunj while you are in Gandhinagar during spring (Feb-March). It is highly recommended.

16. Akshardham
Swaminarayan Akshardham is a large Hindu temple complex inspired by Lord Swaminarayan located in Gandhinagar. This place is religious as well as good to explore by kids. Apart from the main temple complex, there is an amusement park with wide varieties of fun rides for kids as well as adults. It includes huge gardens and the best part is the evening laser water show which is highly recommended not to miss.
- No cameras are allowed.
- Lots of food choices available due to large food complex inside but only vegetarian.
- Best place for everyone.

This park is situated in the center of Gandhinagar city and is famous for its Sardar Patel statue. Along with there is cycling track, jogging path as well as a playground for kids.

18. Nal Sarovar Bird Sanctuary

You will spot Great Flamingos- the State bird of Gujarat along with a varied number of other migratory birds in Nal Sarovar Lake which is spread over 120 sq-km area with serene marshlands and contains numerous small islands.

You will have a number of options to do in Polo Forest ranging from trekking, camping, visiting heritage sites- Jain temple and Shiva Temple ruins, exploring Dam site, and having a peaceful time on the banks of Harnav River.
